The spread and impact of COVID-19 is unprecedented. This public health emergency has resulted in a global economic crisis – both of which has hit the poorest and most marginalized communities the hardest. These twin crises expose the widening inequality around the world and threaten to exacerbate the gap between rich and poor, sending us back decades in our progress towards a more equal world. Civil society's role in responding to this crisis is vital to advocate for essential services, protection, prevention and health care for the most vulnerable particularly those who live in informal settlements. This module exposes students to the systematic process of civil society coalition building, planning and executing interventions that include advocacy and primary prevention and care for the most vulnerable during pandemics. It will be based on readings, case studies, exercises and simulations of real world contexts on managing pandemics for the most vulnerable from a civil society perspective.
