“I cannot forecast to you the action of Russia. It is a riddle wrapped in a mystery inside an enigma; but perhaps there is a key” pronounced Churchill in 1939. The search for keys to the history, geography, and cultures of Russia and of the other former Republics of the USSR and of some of their neighbors will help students understand the importance of Central and Eastern Europe in European and global affairs and understand how (or if) the tensions or the new opportunities affecting the geopolitics of the region involve all other parts of the world.
