Experimental Drawing is a course that uses the broadest possible definition of what a drawing can be in order to the explore mark-making on the widest range of unconventional supports. The emphasis of this class will be to seek the meaningful and expressive qualities of drawings made beyond the boundaries of traditional techniques. Collaborative, process-based, and performative works will be created during the semester. Photographic or video documentation is required due to the fragility of many of the works produced thereby adding a digital element to this course. Pertinent Art Historical movements will be studied in class and in the museums of Paris. Students will be asked to consider and write about the underlying concepts that led them to their finished drawings and to present their “artistic journeys” during group critiques.
